The official list of candidates has been set for this year’s city elections following the filing deadline of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Here’s a rundown of what you can expect on the city of Grand Haven’s ballot this year, both this August and in November:

Three candidates have filed to run for mayor this year.

Incumbent Geri McCaleb is seeking a fourth two-year term as mayor after first being elected in 2011.

Challenging McCaleb for her seat include Mike Fritz, who has served on City Council since 2003; and Nichol Stack, who has served on the Grand Haven school board since 2014.

A primary election will take place Aug. 6 because more than two candidates are running for mayor, noted City Clerk Linda Browand.

“They will be narrowing down three candidates to two,” she said.

The top two candidates from the August primary will then square off in the general election on Nov. 7.

City Council

Three candidates are running for two City Council seats this year.

Incumbents Bob Monetza and Dennis Scott each seek a third four-year term on council. Challenging them for a seat is Andy Cawthon, who serves on the city’s Musical Fountain Board.

Board of Light & Power

Three candidates are running for two trustee seats on the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power.

Incumbents Larry Kieft and Gerry Witherell are both seeking re-election for another six-year term on the board. Challenging them for a seat is Lane Sterenberg.
