FRUITPORT TWP. — Police are looking for the man they say shoplifted and then carjacked a vehicle from The Lakes Mall.

Police were called to the mall in Fruitport Township at about 3:15 p.m. Monday on a report of a shoplifting in progress. The suspect, after physically resisting loss prevention employees, left the mall. Once in the parking lot, he forced his way into a vehicle being driven by a 43-year-old woman.

The suspect drove the car about a mile before stopping and telling the woman to exit the car. She was not injured and her car was later recovered.

Investigators have video surveillance of the suspect and are working to confirm his identity.

Fruitport Township police officers were assisted by the Norton Shores Police Department.

No other information is being released at this time.
