GEORGETOWN TWP. — Police are investigating the discovery of a man’s body in the Grand River near Jenison on Thursday.

Police said a man was walking his dog on a nature trail near the river at the end of Riverview Street, north of Baldwin Street in Georgetown Township, at about 1 p.m. when he spotted what he thought was a body in the river. He then called 911.

Investigators with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said the recovered human remains appear to be a male who was about 6 feet tall. The cause of death is unknown at this time, said Capt. Mark Bennett.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids to determine identity and how the man died, Bennett said.
