COOPERSVILLE — Westbound I-96 was closed for nearly an hour Tuesday morning following a two-car crash near Coopersville.

Emergency crews were called to the crash scene at the 68th Avenue exit shortly before 8:40 a.m. Central Dispatch reports indicated at least one vehicle had rolled over.

A police investigation showed that Jordan Carmona, 25, was driving west on the interstate and did not see traffic slowing for road construction, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Carmona hit the vehicle ahead of him, which was driven by Katherine Wilbur, 30.

The impact caused Wilbur’s vehicle to roll, police said.

Wilbur was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, while Carmona suffered only minor injuries, police said.

Police cited Carmona for failing to stop within an assured clear distance.

The highway’s westbound lanes were reopened to traffic at 9:25 a.m.
