WEST OLIVE — A moment of silence was held for police officers lost in the line of duty during a memorial service Thursday afternoon at the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Protector Monument.

Sheriff Steve Kempker noted the four Ottawa County police officers — William Glerum, Scott Flahive and Trevor Slot and Reserve Deputy Arlyn Gort — who died while in service to local police agencies. A wreath was placed at the monument holding their names.

Kempker asked his officers to stay safe and make sure they go home to their families every night.

“Our goal is never to add another name to this monument in the future,” he said.

The memorial service takes place annually during National Police Week.
