A Zeeland Township man has been arrested and accused of stealing several vehicles, as well as stealing contents from vehicles.

Timothy Scott O’Connor, 20, was taken into custody in Florida last week, police said.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office had been investigating several stolen vehicles and larcenies from vehicles — mostly in Holland and Zeeland townships — during the past month, said Capt. Mark Bennett.

“Six vehicles were stolen and recovered during this spree, along with credit cards and electronics from within several other vehicles (that) were removed,” Bennett said. “Also, in one case, a Glock handgun was taken from a car in Zeeland Township. Several of the credit cards were also used by the suspect at area merchants.”

Bennett said investigators were able to track the use of the credit cards to O’Connor.

“During this past week, the suspect, O’Connor, fled to Florida,” Bennett said. “The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Unit worked closely with the U.S. Marshal’s Office and the suspect was located in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area last Thursday, Sept. 21.”

O’Connor had the stolen handgun in his possession when he was arrested, Bennett said. He was also driving a stolen Jeep from Ottawa County at the time of the arrest.

“The investigation continues and more charges are likely,” Bennett said, adding that O’Connor is a habitual felony offender.
