Police say alcohol was a factor in a crash Saturday morning that injured an Allendale man.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending a potential third-offense drunken driving charge, suffered a head injury in the 8:20 a.m. crash, said Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The 24-year-old man was driving a gray Chrysler 300 east on Port Sheldon Street near 84th Avenue, drifted off the road, traveled in a ditch for more than 100 yards and struck a culvert, Buter said.

An ambulance transported th man to an area hospital. The man was in stable condition. He was the only person in the car, Buter said.

The crash remains under investigation.

When the investigation is complete, the report will be turned over to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for a determination of potential charges.
