WEST OLIVE — An inmate awaiting sentencing at the Ottawa County Jail has died from self-inflicted wounds, according to Sheriff Steve Kempker.

William VanEyck, 33, was found unresponsive within the housing unit of the jail on March 3, Kempker said. VanEyck was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, where he died from his injuries on Monday, March 12.

Kempker said that an investigation into the death is ongoing.
