OLIVE TWP. — A Holland man was injured in a two-car crash early Monday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Port Sheldon Street.

Wilfredo Perez said he was blinded by the sun’s glare when he drove through a red light at the intersection, according to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Perez, 30, was driving a 2009 Buick Enclave south on the highway when he traveled through the red light at about 12:20 p.m.

His car struck a 2011 Buick Lacrosse driven by Heidi Householder, 49, also of Holland. Householder was traveling west on Port Sheldon with a green light, Austin said.

An ambulance transported Perez to Holland Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Austin said. Householder was not injured.

Perez was ticketed for disregarding a traffic signal.
