POLKTON TWP. — A Nunica couple suffered minor injuries when their car was hit by a flatbed tow truck near Coopersville at 6:39 p.m. Thursday.

Police said Rodger Vanderjagt, 74, was driving a Buick Lacrosse east on Cleveland Street when his car was hit by the truck, which was traveling south on 80th Avenue. The truck was rolling through the stop sign, said Sgt. Matt Wildfong of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Wildfong said the truck driver, 26-year-old Steven Vandentop of Grand Rapids, said he did not completely stop at the stop sign and did not see the oncoming car. Vandentop was cited for failing to yield.

The collision forced the Buick off the south side of Cleveland Street, where it rolled over once and landed on its wheels.

Vanderjagt and a front-seat passenger in his car, 70-year-old Cheryl Vanderjagt, were taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital, where they were both listed in good condition Thursday night, Wildfong said.

All three people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, Wildfong said.
