Police search for suspect who robbed Macatawa Bank branch

HOLLAND TWP. — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bank robbery at the Macatawa Bank branch office on Riley Street in Holland Township that occurred at about 4:35 p.m. Tuesday.

At that time, a male entered the bank, rushed up to the counter and demanded money. The suspect was in possession of a handgun during the crime, said Capt. Mark Bennett of the Sheriff’s Office.

No one was injured in the incident, Bennett said.

The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene in a four-door sedan with a sunroof, possibly a VW Jetta-style car.

The suspect was described as a stocky white male; between 5 feet, 3 inches and 5 feet, 6 inches; and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black ball cap and dark basketball-style shorts with a red emblem at the bottom.
