Police: Death of Queen's Cup sailor not suspicious

A 41-year-old Milwaukee died during the Queen’s Cup sailboat race from Milwaukee to Grand Haven.

Officers from the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety responded to a medical emergency at Grand Haven Municipal Marina at 4:51am. Saturday.

Police said that the man was found deceased in the cabin of a boat registered in the race.

Race participants tried to resuscitate the man without success.

The death is not race or sailing related and foul play is not suspected, police said.

An autopsy is pending and officers are notifying next of kin.

GHDPS, Grand Haven Sailing Club, Grand Haven Harbor Board, and marina staff express condolences to the family, noted GHDPS Director Jeff Hawke.
