Report: Scammers used GHDPS phone number

The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety continues to warn consumers to guard against scam phone calls from thieves intent on stealing their money or their identity.

Criminals pose as the IRS to trick victims out of their money or personal information.

Scammers use caller ID spoofing. They will often alter caller ID to make it look like the IRS or another agency is calling.

GHDPS received a report Thursday that a scammer was using the department’s phone number in an attempt to scam the caller out of money.

You can report these calls to the Federal Trade Commission. Use the “FTC Complaint Assistant” at www.FTC.gov
