FRUITPORT TWP. — Motorists traveling north on U.S. 31 through the Muskegon area might want to seek an alternate route as a road buckle has caused a traffic backup for “a considerable distance,” according to Fruitport Township Police.

The left lane of the northbound highway, near Broadway Avenue, is closed, police said.

Traffic is being directed onto the shoulder and is moving, but is backed up for a long distance.

A Michigan Department of Transportation official is on the scene with Fruitport Township Police.

Officials said that the closure will likely affect the Monday morning commute as well.
