Police said an ambulance transported the female driver of the SUV to North Ottawa Community Hospital following the crash. Her name was not immediately available.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the busy intersection at 2:09 p.m. Sgt. Jason Kik said traffic was backed up on Savidge Street for drivers trying to go south into Grand Haven on U.S. 31, mostly because of traffic departing the final weekend of the Electric Forest music festival in Rothbury.
The driver of the SUV was northbound on School Street and attempting to cross Savidge Street to get to a nearby health center, Kik said. Traffic was stopped, so a motorist waved the woman to proceed.
The SUV was crossing the roadway when a Muskegon man in a 2015 Honda Accord came up in the outside lane and the vehicles collided.
The driver of the Accord, Jim Kuharevicz, said he just bought the car and was heading to the beach in Grand Haven. He took the Spring Lake exit to try to work his way around the traffic. He had turned around and was heading back to U.S. 31 when the crash occurred.
Kuharevicz suffered minor injuries and sought his own treatment.
