CROCKERY TWP. — A 36-year-old Grand Rapids man was killed when his motorcycle struck a car turning in front of him late Saturday afternoon on Cleveland Street (M-104) at the intersection of M-231.

Beau McDonald died at the scene, despite efforts by witnesses and first responders to save him, said Sgt. Jay Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

McDonald was traveling east on Cleveland Street on a 2006 Honda motorcycle, just before 4 p.m.

A 2007 Honda CRV, driven by Aaron Ruiz, 33, of Holland, was westbound on Cleveland.

Both vehicles were approaching M-231 with a yellow light, when Ruiz attempted to turn south onto M-231, Douglas said. As the SUV turned the corner, the rear of his vehicle was struck by the eastbound motorcycle.

One backseat passenger in the Ruiz vehicle was injured. Daniel Ruiz, 25, of Holland, was taken by North Ottawa Community Hospital ambulance to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. He was in good condition, Douglas said.

Aaron Ruiz and his two other passengers were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
