WRIGHT TWP. — Two people died Sunday night after their motorcycle collided with an SUV west of Marne.

Motorcyclists Larry Hein, 72, and Joyce Hein, 67, of Marne were pronounced dead after being taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids by ambulance and helicopter, according to Sgt. Jay Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. They were both wearing helmets at the time of the crash, Douglas said.

The driver of a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 63-year-old Coopersville man, suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was arrested at the scene for driving while intoxicated and causing death, Douglas said.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Cleveland Street and 40th Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Douglas said that Larry Hein was driving his motorcycle east on Cleveland when the southbound Jeep pulled in front of the bike. The motorcycle struck the Jeep on its passenger side door.

Also responding to the scene were the Wright-Tallmadge and Coopersville-Polkton fire departments.
