GEORGETOWN TWP. — A 14-year-old Jenison boy is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a car late Sunday night in Georgetown Township.

Police did not release the name of the youth or the driver of the car.

The boy was riding his bicycle at about 10:39 p.m. on 44th Street, east of Eighth Avenue, when he was struck by a car driven by a 29-year-old Wyoming man. An ambulance transported the boy to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The boy was riding near the center turn lane in the five-lane road, according to Sgt. Jay Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver stopped to give aid and is cooperating with police, Douglas said. The driver of the car was not injured.
