One killed in early morning crash on I-96 near Nunica

CROCKERY TWP. — A Kalamazoo woman died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning on I-96 near the 12-mile marker, according to police.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Megan Mangione, 28.

Deputies and Crockery Township firefighters responded to a call regarding a crash in the westbound lanes of the highway near Nunica shortly before 3 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Buick was westbound on I-96, left the road, went into a heavily wooded area of the median and struck some trees. The driver suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Police said there were no passengers in Mangione’s car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
