HOLLAND TWP. — Two men are dead following a two-car crash early Thursday morning in Holland Township.

Alexander DeVriendt, 34, died at the scene of the crash, said Sgt. Michael VandenBosch of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. Ector Juarez, 23, died after being taken to Holland Hospital. Both were Holland residents.

There were three passengers in the Juarez vehicle. A back-seat passenger, Aaron Marez, 21, remained in critical condition after being transferred by helicopter to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, VandenBosch said. Another back-seat passenger, Abraham Garcia, 25, and a front-seat passenger, Carlos Ramirez, 19, were in serious but stable condition at Holland Hospital. All three are Holland residents.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Riley Street and 112th Avenue after the crash occurred at about 2:50 a.m.

VandenBosch said that Juarez was driving a 2007 Honda Accord north on 112th and DeVriendt was driving west on Riley in a 2011 Subaru Legacy. DeVriendt had a yellow flashing light as he approached the intersection.

Speed was a factor in the crash, but it is unknown whether or not drugs or alcohol were factors, VandenBosch said.

DeVriendt was wearing a seat belt. It is unknown whether the occupants of the Juarez vehicle were wearing seat belts, VandenBosch said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
