UPDATE: Police have released the name of the man killed in the one-car crash on Luce Street: Benjamin Scott, 33, of Wyoming.

TALLMADGE TWP. — The driver of a car that ran off an Ottawa County street and struck a tree Friday afternoon was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, police said.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the single-car crash on Luce Street, east of 20th Avenue in Tallmadge Township, at 5:01 p.m.

The investigation shows that the driver was eastbound on Luce when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and lost control of his vehicle. The car crossed the center line before going off the north side of road, where it smashed into a tree.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, said Sgt. Christi Wendt of the Sheriff’s Office, and at this time it is still under investigation.

Luce Street was closed between 20th and Eighth avenues for about four hours after the crash for the investigation.
