GRAND HAVEN TWP. — Two Grand Haven men were injured when their car smashed into a pole in the median of U.S. 31 near Comstock Street at about 3:20 a.m. Friday, police said.

The investigation showed that the vehicle was southbound on the highway when it left the roadway and struck the pole.

The driver, whose name was being withheld pending arraignment on charges stemming from the crash, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Christie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment.

A passenger in the vehicle’s front seat, 28-year-old John Casemier of Grand Haven, sought his own treatment for minor injuries, Wendt said.

Assisting deputies at the scene were NOCH paramedics and Grand Haven Township firefighters.
