COOPERSVILLE — A Bailey man is hospitalized in good condition after crashing into the back of a semi-truck Wednesday morning in Coopersville.

Jeffery Sterken was driving east on Cleveland Street near Eagle Ridge Drive at 7:48 a.m. when he said the sunrise obstructed his view. Sgt. Dennis Luce of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said Sterken’s 2005 Toyota Corolla struck the back of a construction vehicle.

The vehicle, a 2014 Peterbilt semi with a trailer attached, was parked along the side of the road and partially in the roadway with its hazard lights on. At the time of the crash, construction crews were unloading concrete culverts from the trailer.

Sterken sustained minor injuries, police said, and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon.

Responding agencies to the scene were the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Coopersville-Polkton rescue unit, Coopersville-Polkton Fire Department and Life Ambulance.
