PORT SHELDON TWP. — A 30-year-old Holland man died after running in front of a car late Friday night on U.S. 31 between Stanton and Taylor streets, according to Sgt. J. Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Jordan Willard was pronounced dead at the scene, Douglas said.

The incident occurred at about 11:50 p.m.

Police said that a 37-year-old Spring Lake man was driving north on U.S. 31 north of Taylor Street in a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer when the pedestrian ran out of a wooded area in front of him. The Spring Lake man, Michael Posthumus, 37, was not injured.

Posthumus called for help, and he and witnesses gave aide to the injured man until emergency crews arrived.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours while the crash was investigated.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and the driver of the Trailblazer fully cooperated with police, Douglas said.

The crash is still under investigation.
