GRAND HAVEN TWP. — A Holland man suffered serious injuries in a car-versus-moped crash Monday morning in Grand Haven Township.

Timothy Wolf, 33, was driving a yellow moped through the intersection of 172nd Avenue and Comstock Street when he was struck by a car, said Sgt. Matt Wildfong of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

An ambulance transported Wolf to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon following the 7:45 a.m. crash.

Police said that Wolf was driving north on 172nd with a green light at the Comstock intersection when the car pulled out in front of him. Wolf told police he was unable to avoid the collision.

A 2000 Subaru — driven by David Haskin, 29, of Grand Haven — was stopped for the red light on eastbound Comstock. Haskin told police that the truck next to him took off through the intersection, so he moved ahead without checking if the light had changed, Wildfong said. Haskin also told police his windows were fogged and that he didn’t see the moped until the crash.

Wolf told police that he was wearing a helmet at the time, Wildfong said.

A witness told the Tribune that there was a helmet lying on the ground about 40 feet away from the scene.
