HOLLAND TWP. — A 12-year-old Holland boy was lodged in the Ottawa County Juvenile Center after stealing a car and crashing it into a home late Saturday morning.

His name was not released and the boy was not injured in the crash.

Emergency crews responded to a car versus house crash shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday on Greenly Street just east of 136th Avenue.

The car had been southbound on 136th Avenue, turned east on Greenly, and then left the south side of the road, where it went across the yard and struck some wooden steps on a house in the 200 block of Greenly, said Sgt. Christie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver fled on foot, but was later apprehended by deputies with the assistance of a Holland Police Department K-9 unit, Wendt said.

Witnesses told police the the car was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.

Further investigation revealed the car had been stolen from a Holland Township business, Wendt said.
