Angel Hull is lodged in the Ottawa County Jail on a $25,000 bond. She was charged with manslaughter and second-degree child abuse, said Capt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Sebastian Hull died Oct. 22 after being left unattended in a bathtub full of water. Deputies responded to the home at 3513 Hillcrest Way that day and found the infant unconscious and not breathing.
Police determined that the child had been left alone in the bathtub for an extended period of time, Bennett said. The child’s mother said she went to check on him after about 15-20 minutes and found the boy floating in a tub full of water.
Medical personnel tried to save the child, but were not successful, Bennett said. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
A forensic autopsy revealed that the child died of asphyxia by drowning, Bennett said.
The investigation continued and the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office authorized the manslaughter and second-degree child abuse charges. A warrant was then issued for Angel Hull’s arrest.
This is the second person charged in a child abuse death this month in Ottawa County.
Cameron Michael Toppen, 19, of Grand Haven Township was arraigned last week on murder and first-degree child abuse. He is accused of severely shaking 8-month-old Scarlett Ray-Marie Burroughs while taking care of her in her mother’s home on Nov. 15. The child died two days later.
Toppen is lodged at the Ottawa County Jail without bond.
