A 42-year-old man, whom police declined to name, was in critical condition after suffering a medical condition late Wednesday afternoon that resulted in a minor crash.

Emergency crews responded to the crash on 148th Avenue just north of M-104 at about 4:30 p.m.

A large SUV had been stopped at the intersection when the smaller car rolled into the back of it, said Sgt. J. Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The man in the car was discovered unconscious and not breathing, Douglas said. CPR was started and the man was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital and then transferred to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

It was the man’s medical condition that caused his car to roll forward and strike the other vehicle, Douglas said. Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the incident.

Douglas said the crash is still under investigation.
