BLENDON TWP. — Police are searching for the driver of a red pickup truck that hit a man clearing snow from his driveway in Ottawa County’s Blendon Township.

It happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 5600 block of Port Sheldon Road. The man was struck in front of his home.

Police said Alvin Kunzi was standing in the eastbound lanes of Port Sheldon when he was struck by a truck that drove by. A witness told authorities that it looked as though the driver of the truck started to try and avoid Kunzi and lost control of his vehicle.

The passenger-side mirror of the truck hit Kunzi. The vehicle stopped briefly before driving off, according to the witness.

Kunzi was taken to Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital for treatment. He is expected to be OK.

The suspect vehicle is described as a possible early- to mid-2000 red Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck with damage to the passenger-side mirror. The suspect is described as a middle-age, heavy-set Hispanic man.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information about the driver or vehicle involved is asked to contact Silent Observer at 1-877-887-4536, Ottawa County Central Dispatch at 800-249-0911, or the Sheriff's Office at 616-738-4000.
