SPRING LAKE TWP. — A 47-year-old Spring Lake woman was injured in a crash with a county snowplow Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to 148th Avenue at Michael Lane, just south of Cleveland Street in Spring Lake Township, at about 2:15 p.m. According to police, a Jeep and a plow truck collided after the truck swerved to avoid a semi-truck.

The FedEx semi-truck was southbound on 148th Avenue and had slowed or stopped to turn right onto Michael Lane, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The southbound Ottawa County Road Commission snowplow driver, who was in the process of clearing snow, said he didn’t see the lights on the semi. Police said the semi’s lights were obscured by snow.

The plow truck swerved left to avoid rear-ending the semi and collided with the northbound Jeep.

Police said the driver of the Jeep Wrangler, Robin Smith, tried to avoid the collision by swerving to the right, but her Jeep was struck broadside on the driver’s door by the snowplow. The Jeep then struck a railing on the bike path on the east side of the road.

Police said that Smith was “banged up,” but her injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening. She complained of head and neck injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The incident will be reviewed by the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office, police said. This is standard when an incident includes a county vehicle.
