Blowing snow and limited visibility led to multiple crashes on eastbound I-96 on Friday morning.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to five crashes involving 11 cars near Marne. The eastbound lanes were shut down until 11:30 a.m. as police responded.

Five vehicles were involved in one of the crashes. The other crashes each involved two cars.

Two injuries were reported; none of them were life-threatening, according to officials. Two people were transported by Life EMS ambulances to local hospitals to be checked out.

The Kent County Road Commission salted and sanded the expressway prior to it being reopened.
