The Holland Sentinel • Mar 1, 2019 at 7:51 PM

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that Juan Sandro Cabrera, 18, was taken into police custody Friday morning in Michigan.

Capt. Bob Tease said the Sheriff’s Office was acting on new information and was assisted by the Michigan State Police. Cabrera was arrested without incident, Tease said.

Cabrera is suspected of shooting and killing 14-year-old Troy “T.J.” Wells at the Hampton Inn in Holland Township shortly after midnight Feb. 16. Wells, who was an eighth-grader at West Ottawa Public Schools, was shot multiple times with an AR-15-style rifle.

Police believe Cabrera to be a member of the Latin Kings gang. He is being held by police on warrants for open murder, felony firearms and felony gang membership.

Cabrera has a previous guilty plea from 2015 for disturbing the peace in Park Township.

The case remains under investigation and police expect to release more information once Cabrera is arraigned in court.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to call Silent Observer at 877-887-4536.
