ALLENDALE TWP. — Both drivers were injured when their cars collided early Friday near the Grand Valley State University campus in Allendale.

Police said the preliminary investigation showed that a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Dangelo Wilson, 22, was southbound on 48th Avenue in Allendale Township when he came upon a flashing red signal at Lake Michigan Drive at about 12:40 a.m. A 2010 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 19-year-old Alexis Kilpatrick, was westbound on Lake Michigan Drive and had a flashing yellow signal at the intersection.

The vehicles collided and came to rest in the median and eastbound lanes, said Sgt. Rick Sykes of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Kilpatrick was treated at the scene and released. Wilson had minor injuries and was transported in good condition by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Both are Allendale residents.

The investigation continues by the Sheriff's Office, Sykes said.

Assisting deputies at the scene were Allendale firefighters and Life EMS paramedics.
