Suspect arrested in overnight homicide in Holland

Holland Department of Public Safety officers responded to a report of a domestic assault that occurred in the 500 block of west 24th Street, at 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday.  Information given was that the female resident was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, who had broken into her home. Officers found the 61-year-old victim with multiple stab wounds, and a sliding glass door was broken. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holland DPS K-9 units were called to the scene, along with detectives. Officers, detectives and two K-9 units were at the scene for several hours tracking, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and investigating leads. Holland DPS was initially assisted by deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, detectives located the 61-year-old suspect at a storage facility on the south side of Holland. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was lodged at the Holland Police Department on the charge of open murder.

This incident is still under investigation and the arraignment is not yet scheduled.
