Rothbury man killed in Muskegon County crash

MONTAGUE TWP. — A 68-year-old Rothbury man died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night on U.S. 31 near Fruitvale Road, according to the Michigan State Police.

Northbound U.S. 31 in the area was closed for several hours for investigation of the 9:20 p.m. crash.

Police said the man, who has not been identified, was driving north on the freeway, when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and overturned. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, police said.

Assisting at the scene were the Montague Fire Department, the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department and Whitehall Police Department.
