The preliminary investigation determined the 66-year-old male driver of a milk tanker was traveling west on I-196 when he lost control due to low visibility caused by heavy rainfall.
The tanker left the exit ramp and overturned, which trapped the driver in the truck’s cab until he was freed by the Georgetown Township Fire and Rescue. The driver was transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital with minor injuries.
Exit 69A of westbound I-196 to eastbound Chicago Drive was closed for several hours as crews worked to unload and remove the milk tanker from the roadway. It was back open early Wednesday afternoon.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
