COOPERSVILLE - One adult and two children were injured in a car versus tree crash late Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded at 5:33 p.m. to Blue Oak Drive in the Timberline Estates Mobile Home Community.

Police said that a 35-year-old Coopersville man was driving east on Blue Oak Drive with two children, ages 3 years and 8 months, in the back seat of his vehicle.

The man said that he was reaching into the back seat when he went off the road and struck a tree, said Sgt. Christie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The children in the back seat were not properly restrained, Wendt said. They were taken by ambulance to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital, treated for his injuries and then lodged in the Ottawa County Jail on misdemeanor charges.

Coopersville-Polkton firefighters assisted at the scene.
