A Fruitport couple’s dogs will be forever stars on the silver screen thanks to the power of social media.

A photo of Mary and Jeff Kaiser’s two dogs, Chip and Rizzo, is featured in the upcoming movie “The Dog Wedding.”

“It’s going to open on Valentine’s Day, which is kind of fun,” Mary Kaiser said.

The Kaisers entered their dogs’ photo in a contest for the movie this past summer. The photo of the two dogs is themed after a shotgun wedding, with the dogs as bride and groom, and Mary’s husband Jeff in hunting gear holding a gun.

“We got 2,000 votes overall,” Mary said. “We were in the top 10.”

The photo will appear in the movie’s opening credits and the dogs will be named in the movie’s closing credits. According to Kaiser, her dogs will appear with 50 other canine couples that won.

The two dogs are wirehaired pointing griffons and are hunting dogs, hence the shotgun wedding photo prior to their litter of 12 pups, Mary said. She noted that Chip is a grand champion and Rizzo is a champion in the show ring.

Oddly enough, Mary said the winning photo, taken in May, wasn’t shot for the specific purpose of being in the photo contest.

“I took this shotgun wedding photo just for the fun of it,” she said. “They’re both hunting dogs, and I’m always coming up with ideas on how to make people smile on Facebook.”

Mary said she has pictures of her dogs in different settings, including the hunting photos.

“We just snapped a bunch of pictures and that one turned out really cute,” she said.

Mary noted that her friend tipped her off about the contest, and she decided to enter.

This isn’t the first time she’s entered a photo contest and been successful.

“In early 2014, I entered a contest for Clear Conscience Pet — they make healthy dog food supplements — and we won first prize, which was a six-month supply of their super gravy,” Mary said. “That was also a Facebook contest.”

The Dog Wedding” is a romantic comedy about a German businesswoman who falls for an American wrestler while planning their English bulldogs’ wedding.

While she isn’t sure if the movie will be big enough to show locally, Mary said she plans to watch it eventually, even having her own showing for friends and family.
