OLIVE TWP. — Two people were seriously injured in a head-on crash Saturday morning on Port Sheldon Road near 112th Avenue.

Both Zakery MacDonald, 24, of Allendale and Lynda Walker, 62, of West Olive were in critical condition following the 8:30 a.m. crash, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

There were being treated at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

MacDonald was traveling west on Port Sheldon, just east of 112th Avenue when his 2006 Mercury Mariner crossed the centerline and struck Walker’s 2008 Mercury Mariner head-on, Austin said. Walker was eastbound on the roadway.

Both drivers were pinned in their vehicles for an extended period of time during the extrication process by Olive Township Fire/Rescue.

The road was snow-covered and icy and there was blowing snow at the time.

The crash remains under investigation.
