• Mar 23, 2016 at 4:00 PM

R.E.A.D. (Reading Enables Adult Development) was recently awarded a grant of $15,000 over two years from the Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund and the Zenko Family Field of Interest Fund of the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation.

R.E.A.D. provides tutoring to adults in Northwest Ottawa County who hope to improve and transform their lives by strengthening their literacy skills.

The program is the only nonprofit to offer free one-on-one tutoring for adults in the community. This grant will enable R.E.A.D. to add a pair coordinator and volunteer coordinator to its staff.

“R.E.A.D. greatly appreciates the support the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation gives to our mission,” said the agency’s executive director, Susan Lowe. “We have increased our student/tutor pairs by 14 percent in the past two years to 40 student/tutor pairs in total. The pair coordinator and volunteer coordinator positions are vital in supporting the growth of our organization.”
