The event is planned by St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish’s middle school ministry volunteers and will raise funds to help other kids on the group’s mission trip in June to the Academy of St. Louis in Chesterfield, Mo.
“Traditionally, we host a taco dinner around Cinco de Mayo to raise funds for our annual mission trip, but this year we’re kicking it up a notch or three,” said Teesie Jandernoa, coordinator of the Grand Haven parish’s middle school ministry.
Here are the participating restaurants: Arturo’s is the 2016 Tribune People’s Choice winner for best Mexican food. Righteous Cuisine is the 2016 Best of People’s Choice in four categories. Pruebelo’s has served Spring Lake for years, while Mi Cocina opened just three weeks ago.
Taco tasters will purchase a ticket that doubles as a map to participate. They will take a tour of each participating restaurant during the course of the three-day event. Participants will be given a taco at each restaurant and their map is initialed by an employee. When they have toured all four locales, they assess their experience and vote for one establishment.
Voting is done exclusively online. Results will be announced at 9 p.m. Sunday on the St. Pat’s website, www.stpatsgh.org.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the parish office, 901 Columbus Ave., or from mission trip youth.
“We would like to see this become an annual event since the mutual benefit of our community coming together for the common good becomes obvious,” Jandernoa said.
