Weather cools down Mother's Day C-Scow regatta, blows out Saturday's races

FERRYSBURG — Strong winds blew out any chance of racing on the first day of Spring Lake Yacht Club’s Mother’s Day C-Scow Sailing Regatta on Saturday.

The winds continued on Sunday, but officials said they managed to get three races completed with four boats tipping over in “strong, flukey, blustery conditions,” said spokesperson Dawn Veltman.

The overall standings for the event are:

1st - Joe Schaub - Maxincuckee Yacht Club (IN)

2nd - Grant Stille - Spring Lake High School sailing team

3rd - Scott Craig - Lake Fenton Yacht Club

4th - Tom Keenan - Lake Fenton Yacht Club

5th - Scott Harestad - Spring Lake Yacht Club

6th - Brian DeBlanc - Spring Lake Yacht Club

7th - Karl Lanka - Spring Lake Yacht Club

8th - Glen Walborn - Spring Lake Yacht Club

9th - Glenn McMurray - (tie) Lake Beulah Yacht Club (WI)

9th - Todd Bosgraaf - (tie) Spring Lake Yacht Club
