Lighting up the night

Spring Lake Village Council members and village staff boarded a trolley Monday evening to tour and vote on the annual holiday light displays at area businesses.

Judging may have been more difficult this year, according to village administrative assistant Mary Paparella.

“Voting was very close,” she said. “I think it's the first time we've had a tie for both second and third place.”

When the votes were tallied, Five Star Realty came out the winner. Continuum Salon and Lady Bug Hair tied for second. On the Path Yoga and Trendy Tots tied for third place.

“All the merchants did a great job this year decorating, using the theme of ‘Peace, Hope and Love,’” Paparella said. “The windows look so pretty. I love popping in and saying 'hi' to the merchants if they are open when we judge.”

Paparella said the Little Caesar's display is actually a memorial for the store manager's mother.

“Jen from Little Caesar's shared with me that she chose the ‘Peanuts’ theme because her mother called her 'Lucy' when she was growing up,” Paparella said. “Her mother passed away six years ago and Jen was able to decorate as a tribute to her.”
