The fundraiser for the department’s T.E.A.M. (teaching, educating and mentoring) program, formerly known as D.A.R.E., will take place Saturday, June 3, at Harbor Island.
Previously, the run was in September.
All proceeds from the run will be used to provide educational tools, materials and information needed to accomplish the department’s mission in the Grand Haven school district.
The city’s public safety department has provided an officer to work in Grand Haven schools for more than 20 years. The liaison officer teaches life skills that are necessary to help students make good decisions and positive choices, while at the same time avoiding substance abuse and violent situations online and in person, according to Officer Nichole Hudson, organizer of the Resistance Run.
“Your support of this event is sincerely appreciated,” Hudson said.
New this year is a 1-mile kids run, improved 10k course, and new logo design with new shirts and medals.
Walkers are also welcome.
New sponsors are also welcome, Hudson said. Call her at 616-842-3460 for details.
The race schedule is as follows:
— The 10k race starts at 8 a.m., the 5k race starts at 8:15 a.m. and the kids run starts at 9:15 a.m.
— Awards will be presented at approximately 10 a.m.
— Packet pickup and late registration will be under the white tent on Harbor Island on Friday, June 2, from 4-7 p.m.; and Saturday before the race, from 6:30-7:50 a.m.
— Advanced registration can be completed online at www.ghdpsresistancerun.org, or by calling Hudson at 616-842-3460. More information is also available on the website.
