The no-body contact advisory for the Grand River has been lifted.

On Friday afternoon, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health lifted the advisory that was in place for 1 mile east of the U.S. 31 bridge downstream to Lake Michigan.

The health department issued the advisory Wednesday after the Grand Haven/Spring Lake Sewer Authority released 830,000 gallons of sewage in the river. The release occurred from shortly after midnight until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The local sewage treatment plant superintendent said the release occurred when the facility’s ultraviolet system, the last step in the treatment process, lost power.
