More than 3,700 customers, including businesses in downtown Grand Haven, were without power for almost two hours, said Renee Molyneux, administrative services manager for the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power.
Downtown restaurants were busy when the lights went out about 8 p.m., according to some customers posting on social media.
Molyneux said the equipment failure occurred near the Third Street Bridge.
Power was restored an hour and 53 minutes later, she said. This was just before 10 p.m.
“A lightning arrester is a device used to protect the insulation and conductors of our system from the damaging effects caused by lightning,” Molyneux said.
