NORTON SHORES (WZZM-TV) — The superintendent of Mona Shores Public Schools has resigned following a paid leave.

Initially, he was placed on a plan of assistance. School board members reviewed that plan last week and placed him on administrative leave indefinitely.

Helmer's resignation was announced at Monday night's board meeting.

Bill O'Brien, director of curriculum, instruction and assessments for the Mona Shores school district, has been appointed interim superintendent.
