This free community event is designed to help change the perspective of the village, village officials say. With more than 140 businesses and non-profit organizations, the village has plenty of places to work, eat and play.
The Spring Lake Village Adventure concept was inspired by two local business women: Michelle Dixon of Gem Source Fine Jewelry and accountant Michelle Hanks of Seven Steps Up. Both women live and own businesses in the village.
"I've spent enough energy on explaining why I located my business here," Dixon said. "Now, we want to give people a reason to come check out exactly why we think we are so special. And this event is just the thing to bring people into our village."
Dixon and Hanks are also members of the Spring Lake Village DDA. Hanks is the DDA’s liaison to the Village Council, where she was appointed as a council member in 2017.
The concept of the Village Adventure is simple: participants can check in at one of three “anchors” — Holiday Inn Spring Lake, Seven Steps Up Live Music & Event Venue, and Spring Lake Ace Hardware — where they can pick up a passport and goodie bag. Passports will also be available for printing online.
Participants must visit a certain number of businesses to get their passports stamped. Eligible participants will then enter for a grand prize of $1,000 in gift certificates available for any participating Spring Lake retail or service business. Winners must be present to win.
Each participating business will have the opportunity to provide their own coupons, gifts or prizes.
Any business located in the village is eligible to participate. Businesses can email [email protected] for more information and a registration form.
The Village Adventure will also feature a community party.
In addition, a new website, www.visitspringlakemi.com, was recently launched. It provides a link to see all of the participating businesses in the Village Adventure.
