More than 4,000 customers in downtown Grand Haven and the surrounding areas were without power following a lightning strike early Saturday morning.

“A lightning strike tripped a transformer at our Harbor Island substation,” said Renee Molyneux, administrative services manager for the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power.

Residents reported they lost power at about 2 a.m.

Molyneux said power was restored in just under two hours.
