In the past three weeks, the local real estate community has given more than $10,000 toward the project, which will fund the rebuilding of the current Imagination Station at Mulligan’s Hollow.
The challenge kicked off May 11 with a donation from employees of Capstone Companies and Unsalted Living, who then challenged other Realtors to give through videos posted on social media.
The donation challenge has now reached beyond Realtors, with other local businesses joining, such as Michigan Insurance Group and Buffalo Bob’s. Recently, The Village Baker was given the challenge to make a donation, and project chairpersons say they are hopeful the entire business community will continue to spread the challenge and make donations.
“The challenge has been a great way to involve many of our local Realtor friends and community businesses to join us in donating toward a great cause,” said Leigh Lohman, broker/owner of Unsalted Living.
The project needs to reach its fundraising goal of $500,000 by the end of summer. The new play space will be built in October.
“Having been a part of this community for over 25 years, my own family has spent many hours enjoying Mulligan’s Hollow,” said Dave TenCate, founder and co-owner of Capstone Companies. “The Imagination Station is an iconic landmark, but it is also an integral part of my family’s memories, and I’m sure the memories of so many other families in the greater Tri-Cities area. I am proud that Capstone and Unsalted can be a small part of continuing that legacy.“
The Reimagine Project offers many opportunities for anyone in the community to be involved. It is estimated that as the project gears up for build week, Oct. 9-14, more than 1,500 volunteers will be needed for build shifts, hundreds of meals a day will be served for the volunteers, and a football field worth of products and tools will be needed. Donations can be made through the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation: online at www.ghacf.org, or by mail at 1 S. Harbor Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. Donations are tax-deductible.
